Life at UWC

Residences

College campus life is a significant part of the UWC experience. Students are accommodated in their own homes, in some cases located within the perimeter of the school itself, in other cases, the residences are scattered around the community where the UWC are located.

By sharing residences and rooms, as well as studying together, students have a unique opportunity to learn about other cultures and gain a more informed international perspective; thus, fostering global citizenship. Like students, teachers reside on campus and play an important role in monitoring students.

It is important for students to maintain an open spirit, show respect for their peers, be ready to cooperate and commit to their colleagues—always acting with integrity and responsibility.

Development & Welfare

UWC colleges are committed to cultivating the well-being, development and assistance of their students - individually and collectively - recognising the vital role that student support plays in the community of each of our units. Since bringing together students from around the world is part of our commitment to deliberately promote diversity, we seek to support students when facing challenges such as being away from home, acquiring a new language, facing a rigorous academic program, among others.

Each school has its own team of professionals who provide support in areas related to the well-being of students. These professionals include, for example: home coordinators, counsellors, nurses, health and wellness specialists, psychologists and psychotherapists. When necessary, care is provided on campus and / or at nearby local institutions available.

It is also extremely important that students reflect on their role in the community that makes up each school, which implies actively thinking about how they interact with others and taking part in the responsibility of fostering a respectful and healthy community. The daily life on the campuses of our schools is guided by a simple principle: mutual respect. A student who feels happy and safe will, thus, be able to succeed in the classroom and in his community.

Student support teams meet regularly with the aim of making sure that everyone is working in an aligned manner to promote a healthy community to live, learn, and work together. During the introductory period to schools, in the first weeks, students receive dedicated training, especially on topics related to cultural diversity and sensitivity. During the school year, they participate in various meetings and discussions on and off campus, with the aim of promoting a sense of community in each of our schools.

The teams involved in supporting students in schools have access to professional development opportunities, fostering collaboration and continuous support, for the benefit, in particular, of our students.
